SNEFRU hash

In 1990, Ralph Merkle invented Snefru, a cryptographic hash function, during his time at Xerox PARC. This function is capable of producing outputs of either 128 bits or 256 bits. The name "Snefru" draws inspiration from the Egyptian Pharaoh Sneferu, carrying on the tradition established by the Khufu and Khafre block ciphers.

The original design of Snefru was found to be insecure by Eli Biham and Adi Shamir, who successfully employed differential cryptanalysis to identify hash collisions. As a result, modifications were made to the algorithm by increasing the number of iterations in the primary pass from two to eight.
